The Manitoba Association of Optometrists (MAO) is the regulatory and licensing body for the practice of optometry in Manitoba. 

Optometrists whose education was completed outside of Canada are required to undergo a credential assessment through the Federation of Optometric Regulatory Authorities of Canada (FORAC).

Optometric students completing an externship in Manitoba must register with the Manitoba Association of Optometrists (MAO) before beginning their externship. This registration is required under provincial legislation.

Student Associate Membership in the Manitoba Association of Optometrists (MAO) is open to all students currently enrolled in an ACOE-accredited optometric education program. There is no fee to become a Student Associate Member—simply apply online.

Optometrists are primary health care professionals who examine, diagnose, treat, manage, and prevent diseases and disorders of the visual system.

For many years, the Manitoba Association of Optometrists (MAO) has awarded scholarships to Manitoba students enrolled in schools of optometry. These scholarships are fully funded by MAO members.
