About Student Associate Membership
Student Associate Membership in the Manitoba Association of Optometrists (MAO) is open to all students currently enrolled in an ACOE-accredited optometric education program. There is no fee to become a Student Associate Member—simply apply online.

As a Student Associate Member, you receive:
- Access to the Manitoba Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA) Guide
- Regular communications from MAO, including the MAO Minute newsletter and member updates
- An invitation to the annual student event held during the winter holidays
- Free registration for MAO continuing education (CE) events
- Free attendance at MAO social events
- Information and support related to registration and licensure in Manitoba
- Access to MAO’s Mentorship Program

Important Information
Please note:
- Student Associate Members may not complete a clerkship or externship in Manitoba unless they are registered as an Optometric Student (Clerkship/Externship) Member, as defined in the Regulation to The Optometry Act.
- Student Associate Members do not have the right to vote, practise optometry, or hold office within the Association.
- Once approved, your Student Associate Membership will renew annually as long as you remain enrolled in an ACOE-accredited optometric institution.
- Membership will end on July 31 of the year your optometric education program is scheduled to conclude, or upon registration as an Optometrist in Manitoba, whichever occurs first.
